Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is a video surveillance system that uses cameras to capture and transmit video footage to a specific, limited set of monitors or recorders. The term “closed-circuit” refers to the fact that the video signal is transmitted to a specific, limited number of monitors rather than being broadcast to the public.

CCTV systems can be used for a variety of purposes, including security, monitoring, and investigation. They can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings, and can be connected to a variety of devices such as digital video recorders (DVRs), network video recorders (NVRs) or even a cloud-based service. CCTV cameras can be fixed in one location or be PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) cameras, that allow to remotely adjust the camera angle.

There are several types of CCTV cameras, including analog, digital, and IP cameras. Analog cameras typically use coaxial cable to transmit video footage to a monitor or recorder. Digital cameras use digital signal processing (DSP) to convert the analog video signal into a digital format, which can be transmitted over a network or stored on a digital storage device. IP cameras are digital cameras that use internet protocol (IP) to transmit video footage over a network. They can be accessed and controlled remotely, allowing for remote monitoring and control.

CCTV systems can be integrated with other security systems, such as motion detectors and alarms, and can be used in conjunction with other technologies such as facial recognition software or license plate recognition systems.

It’s important to note that usage of CCTV cameras may be subject to laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding the collection, storage, and use of personal information.
